JPMorgan Chase is reportedly declining to compensate a customer who lost her life savings to a scammer.
Courtney White, a former policewoman, disclosed losing $87,000 to an imposter who impersonated her and withdrew thousands of dollars from her JPMorgan Chase account daily, as per a report by NBC 5 Chicago.
White intentionally opened a JPMorgan account without debit cards or checks to save money. However, the imposter drained her account by visiting different JPMorgan branches and making withdrawals in person.
She was unaware of the unauthorized transactions until she received an “insufficient funds” alert months later. White believes that the bank should have flagged the abnormal activity, especially since she had been a customer for two decades.
Although White promptly reported the theft to the police and filed reimbursement requests with JPMorgan, the bank rejected her claims, citing her failure to report the fraud within 30 days of receiving her bank statement.
JPMorgan stated, “We will assist with any investigation, as usual. We advise customers to review their statements regularly and report any unauthorized transactions immediately. Our security measures include setting up alerts for significant account activities.”
Additionally, White mentioned that JPMorgan refused to provide surveillance footage to identify the imposter, stating that they retain video recordings for a limited period.
